March 6th 2009, Fun Day was headed by President Arnel G. Ramos along with his constituents (Co-Founders, Board of Trustees and Executive Committee) in Zabeel Park, Gate 3. Many students have gathered to celebrate a break from conventional classroom environment and enjoy the sunlight and to frolic in the reserved ample area. Luckily this show was orderly scheduled in the beginning of summer and cool breeze was expected to match the strenuous yet exciting activities arrayed. The whole day event comprised of 4 main events : Digerati Looks, Cheering Competition, IT Olympiad and the focus of this interview Mini Sport Fest chair manned by Lucky Jennifer Guevarra-Jimenez, VP-Operations for year 2009 – 2010 and one of the designated Trainer in Deira Heroes venue. I was able to meet with Ms Jennifer in her office to give us the details of the Mini Sports Fest and how it has contributed to the success of a huge crowd organized event. Reporter: Madam Vice President, the Fun Day 2009 is the first of it’s kind since the spawn of Filipino Digerati Association in 2007, as an FDA reporter I want to know how did Mini Sports Fest become part of the program? Jennifer: Pls call me Jennifer, we’ll when our President Sir Arnel announced to the rest of FDA that he wishes to have a Fun Day to break the monotony amongst students and trainers, he assigned all of us our roles and I was assigned to handle the Mini Sports Fest with the assistance of Madam Rizalina Abuel. Sir Arnel as always was able to come up with several games complete with mechanics and prize list, he’s a very organized man you know, so from there I just modified the games list, compromised the use of props, mentally visualize and time each game. Few days before the event I and my husband started looking for prizes and props in the list. Jennifer: I decided with the approval of the rest of Fun Day organizers that participants would register at the Zabeel Park venue itself, it is to give way to the other activities that required participants to be identified in advance. Since Cheering Competition & Digerati Looks had performances which required choreography & polishing up as well as IT Olympiad which needed the participants to review for hands on exams, the option of registering students before the Fun Day was waived. Jennifer: Well for me all of them are winners, the aim of the MSF was to persuade students to engage in a healthy competition, especially those who were reluctant to join the other programs. Also we had to consider the students guest to enjoy the day as much as the members, so I didn’t really take note who is representing which location, we were all there to have fun. Jennifer: The first game was Tug of War, because this game appealed more to the students and had the most number of participants I decided to give each one a prize. The second game was Sack Race, for this game I only awarded the winning team; I needed to make sure there were enough prizes for the next 3 games. It was then followed by Crazy Olympics, which was my personal favorite; it was a close call in deciding the winning team, so I handed all players’ gifts. Lastly Scavenger Hunt, I decided that this would be the game finale as fewer participants were taking part. Before the festivities commenced FDA Logos were scattered in Fun Day allotted area, Scavenger Hunt game objective was to have the first 5 participants present me with the most number of FDA Logos scavenged from trees, shrubs, tents, etc. within 3 minute time frame, I ended up giving the left over gifts even to those who brought 4 or 5 logos.
Jennifer: No thank you, you’ve given me the means to thank a lot of people, me I? Jennifer: First of all I would like to thank Madam Cristina Ababan overall chairman of Fun Day 2009, without her late night runs to Zabeel Park surveying & planning out the area and her weekends spent in rummaging the right resources MSF wouldn’t be a sensation. To Madam Rizalina Abuel for finding the sponsor for the MSF, Sir Arnel Ramos for understanding my short comings, and to my husband Bryan Jimenez one of the coordinators of FDA who didn’t get a shut eye from wrapping all the prizes and compiling all props. To the participants who showed camaraderie with their team mates and competitors. To everyone in FDA, thank you. |
