Ongoing Free Comprehensive Health Check-up
A True Health Awareness Drive from 1st-31st Jan 2012, between 8am-2 pm on all days.

A unique concept for the first time that any private health care centre can offer. A checkup which is totally free of cost, each and every person who does this checkup will know about his or her general health status which will help the patients in taking early steps to control and prevent any abnormal condition from further complications. A one month long medical checkup program is organized from 1st Jan 2012 to 31st Jan 2012 timings 8.00AM to 02.00 PM, on all days including Fridays to allow families to plan visits to our medical centre at their convenient timings to utilize the unique opportunity. This check is offered totally free of cost and is specially designed to include BMI, BP check, blood investigation for Diabetes, Cholesterol, Liver and Kidney diseases. These arrays of tests will give a more comprehensive overview of a person’s health with minimum tests and maximum information; more specific tests will be required in case abnormal readings of the test results are found. Patients are also offered a special privilege coupon which can be used for doctor’s consultation and other investigations.

Due to current life style of fast food habits & growing stress, health is often neglected. Early detection is the best way for prevention of future complications. Generally free medical check-ups are conducted in a simple way with BP check, GRBS and a general doctor consultation, this alone cannot figure out the health status of people who attend free medical checkups. Philippine Christian University Graduate School of Business and Management-Middle East Campus Dean and Professor, Dr Eduardo Parra Malagapo, told The Gulf Today that what makes being the recipient of the 2011 Blas F. Ople Award para sa Natatanging Bayani (BFO Award for the Most Distinguished Hero) more special is that two of his students were previous winners.

They are Geo-Sciences Testing Laboratories CEO and Filipino Digerati Club-UAE co-founder, Mary Jane Alvero-Al Mahdi, Mohammad Al-Dossary Hospital (Al Khobar) director of nursing and OFW Concerns-Eastern Province vice president for economics/director general for health Mary Jane Pajarillo-Tupas.

“Both are my students who are exemplary models of dedication and commitment, not only to their employers but also to the needs of our fellow Filipinos. That is why they were granted the BFO Awards in 2007 (Tupas) and in 2009 (Al Mahdi),” said Malagapo, interviewed in Dubai last week.

“They have proven to be excellent at the workplace and in community service,” he added.

Malagapo was acknowledged by Dole for his “outstanding achievements in the field of education and his tireless involvement in various socio-civic activities, including humanitarian services for fellow Filipinos abroad.”

Al Mahdi and Tupas were with Malagapo, when he received the award from President Benigno Aquino III at the Malacanang (Presidential) Palace in Manila on Dec. 1.

Al Mahdi, whose husband is also Malagapo’s student, said: “He is very patient, a man with a soft heart and a brain of wisdom. An empowered man, a good Samaritan and a humble educator who wants all OFWs to have the chance to get post-graduate degrees, sometimes through the ‘pay when able scheme.’”

Malagapo said it is “the passion and the art of teaching” which he saw in his grade school teachers back home in Danao City, Cebu that inspired him.

He said education is something which cannot be stolen and which needs to be supported even if it is offered for free, because of all the cost elements involved, such as scholarship grants, facilities, administration and faculty fees, and a library that goes with it for the continuous transformation towards a better society.

Malagapo’s pipeline projects for OFWs in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait, include doctoral courses as well as Masters of Arts in nursing, psychology and international hospitality management.

He said: “It is sharing and the transfer of knowledge and skills, as well as the needed values in life which makes education so important.”

Himself a student of and Class 2012 president for the Masters in Business Economics at the Philippines’ University of Asia and the Pacific (UAP), Malagapo said it was a “necessity to help the OFW community children” which inspired him to put up the basic education requirements of nursery to high school in Al Khobar in 1989 and 1995. He went on to expand his advocacy in education in 2005 for the graduate studies of OFWs in the region.

“All OFWs who dream of pursuing academic excellence and professional development are special,” said the father of five professional children and a fellow UAP student.

In here, one will learn balloon modelling or sculptures, balloon designs and decorations for stage and garden events, face-painting, pinata-making, and other party needs. This will be the first step of one’s own business!

FDA President, Engr. Lilian S. Bautista, points out that this is just one of the livelihood programs in line. Other plans are for jewelry-making, scrapbooking and other artworks which will open soon. “We will only take into consideration the availability of venue for these livelihood courses in the next term. For now, most of the slots are filled-in by our regular computer training courses. Hopefully, we will provide full-force for Tulong Hanapbuhay Project by year 2012.”
