One morning I was walking fast to catch the metro train on time. While waiting for the next train to arrive, a thought came into my head wondering what day and date that was! I slapped my forehead and laughed with my own foolishness. I took my mobile phone to check the date and time and was shocked to realize how fast the days go by. 2010 has come to an end! Another year has come to history and yet a challenging year ahead is going to arrive! The whirring sound of the train cut my thoughts and I went inside the train and find a seat. While on my seat the scenes of 2010 flashed back in my head like a film, it was so fast it made me feel dizzy. So I pressed rewind to check what was best and worst of 2010. Set back and relaxed and hoping to have popcorn on my hand while watching a series of events in my head.
Before I lost you and left you wondering what is talking about, I am speaking about the Digerati (FDA – Filipino Digerati Association) and how I became associated with it. I started in Digerati as a student, the same as the others I wanted to learn computer with the hope it will help me find a better job. I found out also that they didn’t teach about computers but Communication and Presentation Skills as well. And I was really impressed with the initiative because most Filipinos lacked the skill to communicate really well. So to make the story short, Digerati captured my heart and I decided to give back what I’ve learned. I spend my weekends to offer any help I can give.
Digerati started the year 2010 with a bang both literally and figuratively. With series of activities that both satisfied our eyes, heart and soul, for a starter Digerati celebrated the Fun Day packed with glamour, fashion and beauty. Who would say that Digerati is all brain and computer geeks only? You are absolutely wrong! Because Digerati is home of great beauties and fashionistas! The year was a proud one for Digerati because it hosted a series of workshops and trainings to boost and improve the quality of teaching. Here the trainers and volunteers alike were updating the methods and find ways and means for the betterment of the whole club and to meet the need of the students satisfactorily.
Digerati aims for quality learning and it can be shown by producing several graduates every term. To make every commencement memorable to students, Digerati creatively put a theme in every graduation to make it special. In the seventh term graduation, Digerati was a picture of colours, dressing up in their best Filipiniana and Barong to show love for their root. The eighth term was equally fun! The summer breeze was on the air! Hawaiian mode, Digerati was on the groove! The ninth term graduation was the grandest amongst them all. Digeratinians donned their slinkiest, sexiest and wackiest gowns and tuxedos on their best. The spotlight was on for the Donz and Divas paraded their stuff on the Al Khaimah Ballroom carpeted floor! Its unique in its owns best, the value there was that everybody had fun and have had the time of their lives reaping the success they toiled very hard.
The year wasn’t just all about learning and fun, Digerati exercised its philanthropic side. We reached out to our compatriot who needed help. Digerati took part in helping the cancer victim child named Lea. Digerati participated to execute events that will help raised funds for our little friend with all our prayers, love and hope for her successful operation.
Digerati has its ups and downs through this few years but the good news is Digerati is here to stay and recently celebrated its 3rd anniversary. Despite all this commotion, Digerati will remain bigger and stronger, because plenty of our “kababayans” out there need our service.
I personally admit that Digerati touched so many lives. From being merely a housemaid and a simple secretary and salesperson, they are promoted into higher position where they purposely deserved. After their stint in Digerati their lives changed forever. And I am one of them. So I took this opportunity to thank Digerati and happy 3rd birthday!
I awoke from a stupor-like euphoria. I thought I was dreaming. A speck of tear fell on my cheek. Digerati remained stronger. The bad were there to strengthen it not to weaken it. 2010 in Digerati was a memorable one. Despite its flaws it came out victorious and I am confident that 2011 is just a piece of cake and I am absolutely sure that we can take the cherry to put on top of it.
The train stopped at the Mall of Emirates station and I came out with a huge smile on my face and ready to face another day.
